Java-GNOME 4.0

I haven’t been really motivated to blog for a while. But I need to invoke the collective knowledge of the Mandriva and GNOME communities here.. (hm I’m not syndicated on any Java planets, yet!)
In short, I patched up the configure script from Java-GNOME 4.0 to work with the manually installed JDK 1.6 on my Mandriva Cooker. Basically I copied all Fedora sections, replaced ‘fedora’ by ‘mandriva’, manually put a few symlinks under /usr/bin and /usr/lib to the right files under /usr/java/jdk1.6.0, and changed a few variables so that they’d get the value of whatever the which command comes up with. Yes, very ugly, I’m sure. But it doesn’t get me far, as the make process immediately bombs out on errors in gconv.h, ioconv.h and other files. I gave up at that point, but could anyone can give some guidance on doing this properly?

Epiphany-extensions

For the first time I rolled a tarball release myself, for epiphany-extensions 2.17.1 (succeeded by newer versions already). The upcoming extensions package adds some new goodies such as the live http headers extension and the Creative Commons license viewer extension. Speaking of Epiphany-extensions, I should mention that Michael V. De Palatis created an overview of all known third-party extensions on one wiki page. Cool!

CC salon

Speaking of Creative Commons, someone on the GroenLinks Open Source Workgroup made me aware of the Creative Commons Salon in the Melkweg on December 13th. There were a few nice performances and speeches, especially from the guy behind Jamendo.
T-DOSE

On December 2nd I visited the T-DOSE conference together with some other guys from Gnome-NL. It was quite interesting to speak to Bruno Lowagie, author of the iText library there. I used iText to generate PDFs in one of my work assignments.
Netwerkborrel

Lastly I want to mention I visited the last HollandOpen netwerkborrel and talked with a few interesting people from the fields of education and open source. Maybe some forces can be combined with the OSS workgroup I mentioned above.
