GUADEC volunteer meetup: The Hague, July 1st
As we all know, GUADEC is getting close. The local team would like to have a meeting to get everyone up to speed as to the status of the planning. The chosen date and time is Thursday 1st July, 19:30 local time in Revspace in the Hague (Binckhorstlaan 172, same as last meeting).
We’re planning to get there a little earlier, to have some pizza (18.30). Please join us and discuss “things to be done” for GUADEC 2010. If you know of anyone with warm feelings towards Gnome and Linux on the desktop…please bring them along.
We need YOU!

On behalf of the Dutch GUADEC 2010 foundation,
See you there!
P.S. If you haven’t registered for GUADEC yet, now is a good time to do so! Even if you’re going for the EUR 0 option, we still need an estimate for materials and public transport tickets to order in advance. Thanks!

5 questions for GUADEC participants
My answers:
1)Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Reinout van Schouwen, age 33. I live with my girlfriend in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For a living, I develop Java-based web applications for academic use. I studied Artificial Intelligence at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where I graduated in 2006.
2) How did you get into GNOME?
It started when, at the university in the late nineties, I was looking for a graphical environment to use under Solaris that resembled OS/2′s Workplace Shell. (At the time, I was an avid OS/2 user.) I found that GNOME 1.something combined with the IceWM window manager came close to what I wanted.
Later, when I installed Mandrake (currently Mandriva) Linux on my parents’ machine, I found that the Dutch translations could *cough* use some improvement. That’s how I got involved in the Dutch Gnome l10n project.
3) Why are you coming to GUADEC?
My first GUADEC was in Dublin, and I’ve missed no edition since then except the one in Vilanova, 2006. This year, I am part of the team that won the bid to get GUADEC to The Hague, so naturally I will be there!
4) In 1 sentence, describe what your most favorite recent GNOME project has been.
Without a doubt, that’s Epiphany. I’ve been a contributor ever since the project split off from Galeon and I’m very happy to see that the browser is going through a “second youth” with the switch to the WebKit back-end.
5) Will this be your first time visiting the Netherlands?
I’ve been living here since my birth.
